My father is still coughing at night six years after a quadruple bypass heart surgery?
Please help. My father jumped cardiac rehabilitation program after surgery. He has had a post-op infection after open heart surgery operation and had another surgery a second time. It has been since then and the cough is worse at night and sometimes bothers her dream. He is 70 years old. What could be the problem. He has a busy life and most of the time units. He does walk, but to do regular excercise. I do not know what is causing the cough to continue. My father things that the surgeon did not properly fasten the chest and playing their lungs or organs, that is the reason for his cough. I know that the valves put through troat could explain, but it should continue during this time. Is it normal that after six years? It is a dry cough.
You may need to see his cardiologist and let them put a Holter monitor to use it for 48 hours. This will monitor your heart. You can have CVP (post-contractions venticular) or ATRAL-fibrilations (A-Fib), when lying down. They cause the heart feels like it skips a beat and cause a "tingling" sensation in the chest, causing coughing. If this is the problem, can put on a beta blocker or other heart med.
